President Shimon Peres yesterday joined the campaign to allow a gay father to bring his infant twin sons, who were born to a surrogate mother in India, to Israel. Dan Goldberg has been stranded with the twins in a Mumbai hotel for two months, due to the Interior Ministry’s refusal to administer a paternity test that would determine whether he is their biological father. Members of Peres’ staff approached the foreign and justice ministries for assistance earlier this week. Goldberg’s attorney, Irit Rosenblum, who also heads the New Family Organization, yesterday asked Peres to demand of Interior Minister Eli Yishai that the twins be brought to Israel immediately, before completing the paternity tests, which take two to three weeks.
